How To Add Privacy To A Chain Link Fence

Chain link fences are affordable and durable, which are two qualities that interest most homeowners. The only real drawback of these fences is that they do somewhat lack when it comes to privacy. Fortunately, this is a solvable situation. There are a number of options you can consider to add privacy to your chain link fence.

Landscaping

If you want to add some level of coverage, but you aren't looking for a complete block out, consider adding some landscaping elements. Flowering vines like Bougainvillea is one great option. These vines require very little maintenance and they can be trained to grow and spread through the diamond openings along the fence.

When bloomed, they also have small, color-rich flowers spread across the vine. Another option is shrubs or bushes. Depending on the growth you choose, some of these options can grow to reach several feet in height.  Just how closely you plant them together will determine what level of coverage you have.

Fence Slats

If you want to ensure that no one is able to see through your fence, consider installing fence slats. Fence slats are thin, tubular structures that you thread through the diamond openings of a chain link fence. Since they are flexible, you can simply weave them through the fence in either a horizontal or vertical pattern.

Since slats are available in a variety of material and color selections, it's best to choose an option that will be complementary of your existing landscaping. For a more cohesive look, you can even have the chain link fencing painted to match the color of the slats.

Rolled Fencing

If you're looking to add privacy and disguise the look of your chain link fence, add a layer of rolled fencing. As its name suggests, rolled fencing is basically sheet fencing that can be installed over the top of chain link. A popular rolled fence option is bamboo because of its unique look and durability.

Installing rolled fencing involves the use of galvanized wire that is looped through the rolled fencing and the chain link fence and tightened with pliers to secure them together. Rolled fencing can be purchased in the same height as your fence or it can be purchased slightly longer to increase the height of the fence.

Whether you currently have a chain link fence installed around your home or you are considering the installation of one, an installation specialist can help you add privacy to your fence. Contact a business, such as Rainier Fencing & Decking, for more information.
